ARU

About ARU:

ARU is a global university transforming lives through innovative, inclusive and entrepreneurial education and research. ARU holds a Gold award for the quality of its education, awarded through the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).

ARU’s research institutes and four faculties bridge scientific, technical and creative fields.  We deliver impactful research which tackles pressing issues and makes a real difference to our communities.  Our academic excellence has been recognised by the UK’s Higher Education funding bodies, with 16 of our research areas assessed as world leading. We are the largest provider of Nursing, Midwifery, Health and Social Care students in the East of England, and we are also among the UK’s leading universities for degree apprenticeship provision, working with hundreds of employers across the UK.

Our alumni community is central to our mission—supporting students, shaping the future of the University and strengthening our impact in the places we serve.

About the Role:

We are looking for an organised and proactive Alumni Officer to join our team on a fixed-term maternity cover basis. This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of our alumni activity. You will deliver high-quality engagement activity that builds an inclusive, connected and active alumni community.

You will coordinate communications, events and volunteering opportunities, support engagement with our Honoraries, and play a key role in maintaining accurate alumni data. You will also support outreach activity for the Graduate Outcomes Survey, helping ensure strong engagement with recent graduates.

With a degree (or equivalent experience) and a background in alumni relations, communications, stakeholder management, a customer-focused engagement role or events, you’ll bring energy, creativity and a genuine enthusiasm for building meaningful connections. You’ll have experience coordinating activity to deadlines and delivering high-quality service, alongside confidence working with CRM systems (or similar) to maintain accurate records and support reporting. A strong communicator, you’ll be comfortable creating engaging content for different audiences and responding to enquiries with professionalism and good judgement.

Highly organised and proactive, you’ll enjoy managing a varied workload where no two days are the same—balancing communications, events and stakeholder engagement with ease. You’ll be confident collaborating with colleagues across the University, building positive relationships and spotting opportunities to improve how we work. An interest in higher education and the power of an engaged alumni community is essential, and experience in a university setting or supporting outreach activity would be an advantage.

Informal enquiries can be made to Andrea Hilliard, Deputy Director of External Relations and Communications, at andrea.hillliard@aru.ac.uk

Please note - Interviews will take place on 6 July 2026.
