About the role:

Learning Development Services (LDS) play a pivotal role developing academically credible, business relevant distance learning courses, using learning technologies to enhance student experience and to help equip students with the skills fit for 21st century employment.  With a truly diverse, international student population we provide the opportunity and flexibility that students need to be successful in their studies.

Apprenticeship Distance Learning Tutor (Part-time, flexible contract, UK home-based)

Emergency Contact Handler Apprenticeship (Level 3 with level 4 Cert HE)

We are looking for a Distance Learning Tutor to deliver on an online apprenticeship. The role involves managing the delivery and apprentice support of self-paced module content, discussion posts, activities, and email communication. There is an expectation of some scheduled live online delivery, as well as periodic face-to-face workshops.

The online module delivery will involve supporting students as they work through the provided self-paced module content. Tutors will host a minimum of 3 live, recorded, webinars per Trimester (12-week duration). Tutors will also provide support to students via the Learning Management Systems (LMS) discussion posts, activities and via email communication. Tutors will complete marking of 1st attempt and resubmissions scripts.

We are particularly looking for tutors with the following key knowledge and skills:

  • Use of sector specific technology to identify, record and update information relevant to the incident.
  • Experience of working in a command-and-control centre.
  • Broad experience and knowledge of contact handler communication processes, strategies, and theories.
  • Knowledge of sector specific grading guidelines or mobilising procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience of risk management, risk assessment frameworks and decision-making models.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety legislation and stress management.
  • Awareness of organisational, legislative, and national policy and procedures.
  • Awareness of organisational values and ethical standards and frameworks.
  • Awareness of sector specific legal frameworks and regulatory standards.

Ideally, the suitable candidate would have experience of teaching via online delivery, however this is not essential. This role would also suit an experienced practitioner or professional in the subject field. Experience of online course design as well as experience of delivering on an apprenticeship course is desirable.

The role would suit someone looking for an additional role/hours or part time work. Distance Learning Tutors will be home based; hours will be flexible determined by allocated module cohort numbers and credit weighting of the module.

We are looking to recruit a Distance Learning Tutor to start asap to support with module content development. Course delivery will begin in January 2026.

Please be advised that future additional work opportunities that Distance Learning Tutors may be involved with are:

  • Project supervision.
  • Module and course development.

Please be informed that these elements are each contracted separately at a set fee when required.

You will also have relevant academic and/or professional experience, along with knowledge of applying skills, methods and techniques in a learning and teaching environment.  Ideally, you will have a degree, although applicants without a degree, who have relevant professional experience, will be considered.

The hourly rate for delivery is £49.56 (including marking).

Interviews will take place w/c 16th June 2025.
