ARU Writtle

About ARU:

ARU is a global university transforming lives through innovative, inclusive and entrepreneurial education and research. ARU holds a Gold award for the quality of its education, awarded through the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
ARU’s research institutes and four faculties bridge scientific, technical and creative fields.  We deliver impactful research which tackles pressing issues and makes a real difference to our communities.  Our academic excellence has been recognised by the UK’s Higher Education funding bodies, with 16 of our research areas assessed as world leading. We are the largest provider of Nursing, Midwifery, Health and Social Care students in the East of England, and we are also among the UK’s leading universities for degree apprenticeship provision, working with hundreds of employers across the UK.

At our ARU Writtle campus, we specialise in animal, environmental, agricultural and horticultural courses, for learners aged 16 to 18, adult learners, undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

About the Role:

Based on our 120 hectare mixed farm, your role will be split between providing assistance, weekend and relief cover on a 60 sow farrow to finish pig unit and assisting with all other tasks on the wider estate. As well as the pigs, you’ll be involved in a mixed farming enterprise with a growing suckler herd, dairy beef enterprise, flock of sheep and an arable acreage that has recently been brought in hand. The farm is a teaching resource, so the role also comes with some involvement in the delivery of both teaching and research outcomes.

With a good work ethic and a can-do attitude, you will be physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weathers and all year round. Ideally you will have level 3 or above qualification in a relevant field or previous experience in a similar role. You must have a good knowledge and positive attitude to animal welfare and environmental and health and safety legislation is essential.

Interviews to take place on Wednesday 7th May 2025.

Informal enquiries can be made to Alex Hepburn, Farm Estates Manager at alex.hepburn@aru.ac.uk or 07710 668009.
