About the Role:
Lecturer in Engineering/LBSE:
(Agricultural Engineering – CNH Level 2 & 3 Apprenticeships)
Writtle College is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced Land-Based Service Engineer / Technician (Agricultural Service Engineer/Technician) to join our engineering team, delivering the CNH Level 2 and Level 3 Land-Based Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Programme.
In this role, you will work alongside three highly experienced, time-served engineering lecturers, who together bring over 150 years of industry experience. The team is passionate about delivering outstanding teaching and inspiring the next generation of agricultural technicians.
Who This Role Is For:
This opportunity is ideal for either:
- An experienced agricultural or service engineer looking to pass on their knowledge, skills, and industry insight to apprentices
or - An enthusiastic and capable engineer who may be earlier in their career and is keen to develop their skills with the support of the world-renowned Case New Holland (CNH) machinery manufacturer.
You will become a key part of the land-based engineering team, supporting the delivery of practical, industry-relevant teaching. Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with the preparation, delivery, and supervision of live-work student projects, including tractor and machinery servicing, repairs, and overhauls
- Supporting the creation of teaching models and rigs, such as wiring boards, cut-away gearboxes, engines, and other practical learning aids
- Ensuring machinery, tools, and teaching resources are maintained and ready for each session
- Supporting general workshop operations, including tool control, equipment maintenance, stock control, cleanliness, and health & safety compliance to industry standards
- Transporting apprentices (minibus driving) and attending CNH technical training courses with apprentices at key stages of the programme
- Developing and delivering teaching content in subject areas where you feel confident
- Actively engaging in technical, educational, and personal development, including the opportunity to undertake teacher training qualifications
What We’re Looking For:
You will have a strong interest and background in agricultural and/or service engineering, with experience in areas such as agricultural machinery, vehicles or plant machinery, horticultural machinery, and welding or fabrication repairs. You will hold GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) at Level 2, along with a vocational qualification at NVQ Level 4 or equivalent.
Ideally, you will also have an endorsed teaching qualification or be willing to commence teacher training within one year of employment. No formal teaching qualification is required to begin the role, making this an excellent opportunity for someone seeking a career change or progression within agriculture or engineering.
Joining us offers the chance to work with cutting-edge, high-tech agricultural machinery while being supported by a highly experienced and passionate teaching team. You will have the opportunity to further develop your own skills through CNH-backed training and play a vital role in shaping the future workforce of the agricultural engineering industry. If you enjoy servicing and repairing agricultural machinery, working with modern technology, and supporting young adults as they develop their careers, this is your opportunity to make a real difference.
