About ARU:
ARU is a global university transforming lives through innovative, inclusive and entrepreneurial education and research. ARU holds a Gold award for the quality of its education, awarded through the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
ARU’s research institutes and four faculties bridge scientific, technical and creative fields. We deliver impactful research which tackles pressing issues and makes a real difference to our communities. Our academic excellence has been recognised by the UK’s Higher Education funding bodies, with 16 of our research areas assessed as world leading. We are the largest provider of Nursing, Midwifery, Health and Social Care students in the East of England, and we are also among the UK’s leading universities for degree apprenticeship provision, working with hundreds of employers across the UK.
About the Role:
You will provide essential technical support for our civil and mechanical engineering teaching, research labs and workshops. You will be practically minded and able to ensure safe, effective operation of equipment, prepare practical classes and workshop sessions, maintain specialist equipment, and assist staff in ensuring that students receive practical and realistic work-based experiences in order to develop the skills needed as either a mechanical or civil engineer.
You will be based in our mechanical and civil engineering workshops on the Chelmsford campus and you’ll play an important role in ensuring student satisfaction through supporting practical sessions, setting up and maintaining equipment and supporting research projects. You’ll also ensure our facilities are well maintained, safe and tidy.
Ideally with a degree in engineering and practical experience you will have demonstrable skills and knowledge across a range of practical engineering related activities which will enable you to provide support for staff and help for students. Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and engineering specialist software will be a benefit. You’ll need to be comfortable with change and flexible because no two days will be the same.
