About Writtle College:

Writtle College has been part of our community since 1893, when it first opened as the ‘County Laboratories’. Today, it’s a specialist land‑based Further Education college offering practical, career‑focused courses for school leavers and adults returning to study. Students can explore subjects such as Agriculture, Animal Studies, Conservation, Equine, Floristry & Creative Crafts, Horticulture, Land‑based Engineering and Sport.

Our 400‑acre countryside campus is a welcoming and inspiring place to learn. With a working farm, equine centre, modern science labs, design studios, a canine therapy clinic, a specialist animal unit and great sports facilities—including the UK’s first permanent 3x3 basketball courts - students have everything they need to develop skills and confidence.

In 2024 following a merger with Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), a statutory FE Corporation was established led by a College Principal and a dedicated Board of Governors.

About the Role:

We are seeking applicants for two vacancies on the Writtle College Board: one with finance and audit skills and experience; and one with experience and knowledge of further education, training and employment, preferably within one of our subject areas.

As a Board Member, you’ll attend meetings of the Governing Body and its committees, and contribute to the strategic leadership, oversight and governance of the institution, ensuring it fulfils its educational mission, operates effectively and ethically, and serves the public interest.

The Board meets four times a year, with three Governor Development days. You may also be invited to serve on a Board Sub-Committee.
